  • How can I check room availability?

  • How do I book a room?

    Because of the payment procedure, we take reservations online only. Please check room availability and book from our website (here) or Booking.com (here) We are booked out if the room does not show up when you select the date.

  • Can I change or cancel my reservation?

    Yes, you may modify or cancel your reservation at no cost before the cancellation policy period begins. If you booked through our website, you can view or make changes to your reservation here. In some cases, you may need to cancel your current reservation and rebook to make changes. Please be sure to review the cancellation policy.

    If you need to adjust your check-in date due to a flight delay or cancellation, please contact us directly, and we will be happy to assist.

  • When do you start taking reservations for the next winter season?

  • How do I get to Hotel Goryukan?

  • How does Goryukan’s shuttle bus work?

    Hotel Goryukan offers a complimentary shuttle service exclusively for hotel guests, available only on arrival and departure dates. Below are the details and seasonal variations for our shuttle service.

    Green Season (April to November)
    Pick-up Locations: Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal, JR Hakuba Station, Hakuba Base Camp
    Pick-up Hours: 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm

    Winter Seaosn (December to March)
    Pick-up Locations: Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal, JR Hakuba Station, Hakuba Base Camp
    Pick-up Hours: 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm
    Note: Pick-up requests before 12:00 pm are available only if you are arriving on the 11:41 am Azusa train from Tokyo at JR Hakuba Station.

    Request Submission To secure your pick-up, we kindly ask that you submit your request at least one day prior to your arrival using our Pick-up Request Form. Please note that due to operational constraints, we may not be able to confirm pick-up availability until closer to your arrival date—typically around two weeks in advance.

    Important: From December 14, 2024, onward, certain dates may be unavailable for pick-ups due to driver limitations. These dates will be announced approximately two weeks in advance. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

    Additional Information
    Departure Day Transfers: Shuttle service from the hotel to Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal, JR Hakuba Station, and Hakuba Base Camp is available from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Please arrange drop-off requests directly with the front desk after check-in.

    Transportation to Ski Resorts: The Goryukan Shuttle does not provide transportation to ski resorts. For transportation to the slopes, we recommend using the public shuttle bus service provided by the village. The lift entrances to Hakuba Happo-One Ski Resort are within walking distance from the hotel, including the Nakiyama 3 Triple Lift (about a 7-minute walk) and the Happo Gondola Lift “Adam” (about a 10-minute walk).

  • Where can I park my car?

    Our outdoor parking lot on the premises is available for free and does not require a reservation. Feel free to park anywhere inside the white lines or neatly alongside another vehicle. Please manage your car and keys on your own during your stay.

    However, we may ask you to move your vehicle depending on the parking location, especially during winter due to potential hazards like falling snow. As a result, we will inquire about your vehicle type and the last four digits of your license plate number during check-in.

    If you have an electric vehicle, please inform our staff upon your arrival. Our hotel guests will have complimentary access to our EV charging station, which is a standard charger compatible with all electric vehicle models. Our front desk staff will guide you to the appropriate parking area and assist you with setting up the charging.

  • Can I park my car before check-in?

    You can park your vehicle on the day of your arrival before check-in and after check-out without a reservation. However, if you require overnight parking due to activities such as hiking without staying at the hotel, we kindly ask you to use a public parking lot.

  • Can I send luggage to the hotel in advance?

    Yes, you are welcome to send your luggage or packages to the hotel prior to your arrival. Please ensure that the name on the shipment matches the name on your reservation so we can correctly identify it upon arrival. We will provide it to you during check-in. Please note that if the name on the shipment differs from the name of the guest, we may refuse to accept the delivery.

  • When can I check in?

    Check-in is available from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

    We do not offer early check-in, but if your room is ready, we may be able to accommodate you a bit earlier. Please note that our front desk is closed from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, so the earliest possible check-in would be 2:00 PM.

    For check-in after 9:00 PM, this is only available if you are arriving by Nagano Snow Shuttle or a reserved taxi that drops you directly at the hotel. If this applies, please notify us at least one day in advance.

    International guests without a residential address in Japan are required to provide a passport for a photocopy upon check-in. Please ensure that your passport is accessible.

  • Can you store my luggage before check-in?

    Yes, we offer complimentary luggage storage. However, please note that our front desk is closed from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, during which time staff are unavailable. We kindly ask for your understanding that luggage drop-off and pick-up cannot be accommodated during this period.

Restaurant & Bar

  • What time is breakfast served?

    Breakfast is included in the room rate for all hotel guests and is served daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Please feel free to explore our breakfast menu here.

  • What time is dinner served?

    Winter Season (December to March): Dinner is served from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with both buffet and a la carte options available each evening. Please note that hours and menu offerings may vary based on circumstances and availability. For the latest updates, please check our Instagram (@thefive_hakuba). We appreciate your understanding.

    Green season (April to November): During this season, the restaurant is exclusively open to hotel guests and serves a buffet only. The restaurant operates from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and guests are kindly asked to enter by 7:00 PM. Please note that dinner is not included in the standard room rate. Guests wishing to add dinner may register at the front desk..

  • How do I book a table at the restaurant?

    Winter Season (December to March): You can book a table at our restaurant using this link or by visiting the front desk or bar, where our staff will be happy to assist you.

    Green Season (April to November): If you are staying with us and wish to dine at our restaurant, please book a table at the front desk.

  • Can I take food to my room from the restaurant?

    As a general rule, we kindly ask that guests enjoy their meals within the restaurant. However, during the Winter season (December to March), if guests prefer to dine in their room, select items from our a la carte menu can be ordered at the bar and taken up to their room.

Onsen & Sauna

  • Is the onsen split into men's and women's sides?

    Our onsen is separated by sex. On both sides, you will find changing rooms, baskets for clothing, indoor and outdoor onsens, a cold bath, and a sauna.

  • How do I take a bath in Onsen?

  • Can I use the onsen if I have tattoos?

    Yes of course! Tattoos are welcome at our onsen.

  • Do you offer a day-use onsen? (Can I take a bath without staying at the hotel?)

    Yes, we offer a day-use onsen and sauna. Please pay at the front desk open from 3 pm to 8 pm. The cost of the onsen is 2,000 yen per person (1,000 yen under 11 and free for kids under 6) including rental towels. Please check for the days we are closed on our Instagram @hotelgoryukan

Facility & Service

  • Do you have WiFi?

    We have free WiFi is available inside the building and in guest rooms.

  • Can I bring my pet?

    Unfortunately, no pets are allowed in our building or in guest rooms.

  • Can I smoke in my room?

    No, inside the building and in guest rooms you are prohibited from smoking. If you smoke inside our building we charge you an extra cleaning fee. We have a smoking space right outside of the main entrance and are happy to direct you toward it.

  • What amenities are offered?

    We have a variety of amenities offered here at Hotel Goryukan. Breakfast, the first of which is offered to hotel guests is served from 7 am to 10 am every day. Guests also get free access to our indoor and outdoor hot springs (onsen), sauna, and cold bath.

    Other amenities vary by room but most rooms are equipt with what follows: TV, air conditioner, refrigerator, electric kettle, a tea set, towels, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and hairdryer. (extra amenities can be found on the shelf just across the elevator on the first floor)

  • Do you have double-size beds?

    No, we do not have double-sized beds. If you wish to have a larger bed, we can make a Hollywood twin for you. Please request this when you make a reservation or at the front desk!

  • Where do I get ice cubes?

    We are happy to get you a (small) bucket of ice cubes! Please ask at the front desk or bar for further assistance. We do not have an ice cube machine in the hotel.

  • Is there a microwave?

    We only have microwaves at the restaurant and bar. If you want us to heat your food, let us know at the counter!

  • Do you have a shop? Where can I buy snacks?

    We do not have a shop inside our hotel. We sell some chips at the bar during the winter and for drinks, we have vending machines located on the first and basement floors.

    The closest convenience store, Lawson, is only a short 5-minute walk from us!

  • Where can I find the closest ATM?

    We do not have an ATM inside the hotel. The closest ATM to Hotel Goryukan is at Lawson a convenience store a short 5 min walk away. To find directions to Lawson click here.

  • Do you have a concierge to help me to reserve restaurants in Hakuba?

    We do not have a concierge service at the hotel. However, we are happy to help you book any restaurants or get a taxi. If you need either of these things please ask at the front desk.

    In order to arrange your reservations, we can only call restaurants or taxis when you are present at the hotel. We cannot assist prior to your arrival.

  • Can I get a food delivered to a hotel?

    Yes, you can. However, please coordinate to order, receive, and pay for the food by yourself. Guest rooms and floors are for hotel guests only. Please receive the food at the hotel lobby (1F). Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in advance.

  • How do I get around Hakuba?

    Walking is the best way to get around Hakuba. Alternatively, we are an 8 min walk from Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal, where shuttle buses are running regularly around the village. During high high-demand such as winter and summer, we have more shuttle bus options and can ride from closer bus stops such as Nakiyama slope and #3 parking lot a 2-5 min walk away from us!

  • Do you have bike rentals at the hotel?

    No, we do not have bike rentals at the hotel.

Check Out & Payment

  • When can I check out?

    Check-out is by 10:00 AM. Please return all room keys and the ski snowboard locker key to the front desk upon check-out.

    The front desk opens at 7:00 AM. If you wish to leave earlier than 7:00 AM, please inform the front desk the night before, and we will provide further guidance for your early departure.

    Please note that we do not offer late check-out due to our housekeeping schedule and the need to prepare rooms for incoming guests. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

  • Do you take a credit card?

    Yes, we gladly accept a variety of payment methods, including major credit cards (such as Visa, MasterCard, and American Express), as well as cash and PayPay. We also support transportation IC cards and various other cashless payment options to accommodate our guests’ preferences.

  • Can you store my luggage after check-out?

    Yes, we offer complimentary luggage storage. However, please note that our front desk is closed from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, during which time staff are unavailable. We kindly ask for your understanding that luggage drop-off and pick-up cannot be accommodated during this period.

  • Can I send my luggage to the airport or the next destination from the hotel?

    If you wish to send your luggage home, to your next destination, or to the airport, please fill out a shipping label and bring your luggage to Front Desk. Labels are available at Front Desk for 2 types of shipping: prepaid and postpaid.

  • Can I park my car after check-out?

    You can park your vehicle on the day of your arrival before check-in and after check-out without a reservation. However, if you require overnight parking due to activities such as hiking without staying at the hotel, we kindly ask you to use a public parking lot.

  • How can I find something I forgot in my room?

    If you notice any forgotten items, please contact us as soon as possible via inquiry form or a phone call. Our phone number is (+81) 0261-72-3939 (phone reception: 7:00-10:00 / 14:00-21:00). If any items are found, they can be picked up at the front desk or sent to your home address within Japan, or to your current accommodation in Japan. Please note that shipping will be charged upon delivery.

Winter

  • How do I rent ski and snowboard gear?

    We have a wide variety of rental shops in the area depending on your needs. The closest one to us is Rhythm Happo (or Rhythm Summit Happo) which is only a 4-minute walk. But other options include Woody's, Central Snow Sports, and Spicy. You can read more about rentals here or on any of their websites.

    Also, most rental companies allow guests to return rental gear in our hotel (we have a ""rental return"" shelf in our basement), but it is best to double-check with the company you rent and let them know you will be leaving your gear!

  • Where can I buy a ski pass?

    At the front desk, we sell IC cards for lift tickets and provide a QR code for your access to the discounted price at Hakuba Happo One Snow Resort. Please review our latest winter information for more details. *This is provided for our hotel guests only.

    If you are looking to go to several mountains in Hakuba during your stay, you may find a better deal on Hakuba Valley Day Pass. You can buy the ticket online or at any of the mountain ticket windows.

  • How can I register ski and snowboard lessons?

  • How do I get to the mountains?

    Hakuba Happo-one Snow Resort is the closest mountain to us, only a 5 min walk away. As a hotel, we do not offer a shuttle service to any of the mountains. If you wish to get to other mountains, please use public transportation. Shuttle buses run to many resorts and around Hakuba village, and many bus stops are only a 2 to 5 min walk away! The latest information for the shuttle bus in Hakuba will be up in our news article around December.

    We are also happy to call for a taxi, but in the morning it can be very busy and is often difficult to catch cabs. If you wish to reserve, we recommend you book a night before!
