About Goryukan
Hakuba Mountain Range and Goryukan.
Mt. Shirouma, Mt. Karamatsu, and Mt. Goryu.
Their presence has guided people for generations.
Trekking in summer. Skiing in winter.
In spring and autumn, fresh green and colorful leaves wrap the trails.
Hakuba’s mountains open your heart in every season.
This place has grown together with the mountains.
Long ago, people who felt the same attraction we feel today, carved paths where none existed.
More than 100 years ago, mountain guides appeared to lead those who wished to climb.
Trails were built, lodges opened and visitors were welcomed.
Since the days when people relied only on their own hands and feet,
Hakuba’s mountains have continued to move the human spirit.
The founder of Goryukan was also one of those people captivated by the mountains, especially by the quiet strength of Mt. Goryu. In honor of that mountain, the inn was named “Goryukan.”
Early in the morning, the mountains glow with the sunrise.
Blue skies, bold peaks, traces of snow that remain even in spring.
At dusk, the mountains stand gently against the evening skies.
From morning to night, the scenery from Goryukan brings calm, steady ease to the mind.
It is the same today as it was long ago.
In this unchanging landscape, we look up at the mountains with the same respect as those who came before us.
